Sweet Six

My baby girl turns six today. I am all teary and heart warmed thinking of what I was doing at this time on a very similar sunny and warm day in 2005. Rocking and swaying with contractions, enjoying my music really loud in between adding the last minute items to my hospital bag. Waiting for the DBH to come home again from work. Wondering about the baby boy or girl we were waiting to meet. Wondering about what name we'd settle on once he/she was born.

It really was the beginning of another life, for us, not only her. It was bittersweet as I still reeled from the loss of our first but knowing this baby would be well looked over from above.

My dear sweet girl had one humble request for her birthday this year. She's been hankering after one for months. A skipping rope. Preferably pink or rainbow (God I am good....). So it was with much delight as she literally skipped around the house today.

My heart swelled as she encouraged her sister to help her open her presents and promised to share them with her. At her insistence on opening and reading the card first, as always. At her wanting to leave one gift for later, so Nanny could watch her open it (the biggest gift, no less).

Her request for birthday fare for her school class? Tea cups. Which I had much pleasure in making her, as they were super easy and look super ace.

She was the happiest girl in the world going off to school today and I was too. How simple and sweet life is at six. I am remembering to savour it now. In case, you know, it all turns feral later!

Happy 6th Birthday baby girl!

Happy birthday to your big girl. Her birthday is so close to her big sister's birthday.
She is such a special girl and I hope she enjoyed the day and the teacups.
